The first 70% of the book was just boring. It was so hard to get through and just cringy at parts.
The last 30% was actually decent which is what kicked it from a half star to a one and a half.
It should not be called "a modern retelling of Alice In Wonderland"
There is nothing Alice In Wonderland about this. The main characters name is Alice (she goes by Ali for the entire book though), her best friend is named Kat, and there is a white rabbit cloud. Those are stretches to be paralleled to Alice In Wonderland.
Would have been better without trying to shove that into a story that clearly didn't want it. It feels like the author came up with the title in the planning stages and refused to change it even when the story evolved completely separate from it.

[Third Read - 2021 - 4.75 stars]
Heat Level: Lowheavy make out scenes
CW:moderately graphic depiction of the death of family incl. parents and small child, blood, violence
I still maintain that this is my favorite depiction of zombies, but to be fair, I don't really care for zombie stories so I'm not an expert. It's original in that sense; however, it's not original in the romance department, which is fine by me. This has the bad boy trope where he's only nice to the love interest, however, she is not a damsel in distress. The main character, Alice, is snarky, stands up for herself, is able to fight... and actually does on page.
Categorizing this book has always been a problem for me, but I think it's a fantasy horror romance. It's romance heavy. Even though zombies are usually classified as more horror or even sci-fi, these particular zombies are more fantasy-like as well as how they are dealt with has more fantasy elements. So if you're going into this one looking for some kind of scientific reasoning behind the zombies, you will most likely be disappointed.
This reading is the first time I've ran it through CAWPILE and while it didn't quite make it to 5 stars, it was very close and I'm keeping my rating as that. I started reading this in an attempt to pull me out of yet another reading slump and it did the job perfectly. It's so fun and I enjoyed myself enough to finish it in one day.
CAWPILE Score: 8.57 = 4.75 stars
Characters: 8
Atmosphere: 8
Writing: 9
Plot: 8
Intrigue: 9
Logic: 8
Enjoyment: 10

Second time reading this: I still love it! I like the unique take on zombies and the characters. Love the romance.
