A delightful interactive picture book about a boy's imagination during a very very very long road trip.

Road trips are not really something I have experience with, as I live in a tiny country (you can go from one end to another in about 3, maybe 4 hours) + my parents didn't have a car. But I still wanted to read the book and see all that the kid imagined on this long long road trip (though I do wonder how long the trip actually was).

I had quite a lot of fun reading this one, and I had a laugh at the kid's imagination. Really, the kid imagines the most wonderful things, all of course things he comes across as he travels the country (even the pirates, there was probably some kind of attraction/roadside thingie that featured it). He even gets to the future (I am guessing some sort of fancy city), which makes him worry they are late for his grandma's birthday (um, I think you have other things to worry about if you go 50 years in the future).

To make it all even more interesting, this book is interactive. You can flip it around to see a whole different side.

At the beginning of the book is the invitation to Grandma's birthday.

The art was really quite good, you will be fully immersed in this story.

All in all, I had fun reading this. I am glad that the kid was able to lose himself in imagination and make the trip something to remember. I would recommend this book!

First time I've needed my QR code reader to make it through a picture book. :)

Silas and I loved this book - the illustrations - the way the book flowed, the use of the physical book, as well as the imbedded QR codes that added more dimensions to the story

A trip to Grandma's house for her birthday party can seem to take forever to a kid. Are We There Yet turns the boredom upside down (literally!) and makes the time fly by inserting the car into various scenarios, including amidst dinosaurs, the pyramids, and more. The illustrations feature plenty of action (during the actiony scenes), and beautiful shading. They kept me engaged, and offer opportunities to expand upon the story.

The only this better than being a bookworm is nurturing other bookworms. So I bought this book for me, and immediately shared it with my nieces & nephew. (The last time we got together they brought Beekle to read to me and I had it pulled out to read to them.) Before we read Are We There Yet? I showed them Dan Santat's documented-on-Facebook journey through time to rectify the upsidedown printing "error". And as we read we spotted different things -- mom's expressions, the enthusiastic monkey, why doesn't the kid cosplay?, and every single train. We were delighted that Beekle made a cameo appearance. Now for a 9h road trip back home... wonder what we'll see?

Are we in a place where we just give Dan Santat as many awards as possible? Because we need to be.

Are we there yet by Santat, Dan
Cute audio story of a boy in a car with his parents and they are heading to the grandmother's house.
It is over 1000 miles away and the boy doesn't have much patience, gets bored and his butt hurts. As an adult we've taken rides that are over 1100 miles long so I can fully understand where this story is going.
Love the trip and you should treasure it.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
