Read this one for Spanish Class. I honestly thought it was a really interesting and well written. I like that it was a play, defiantly a challenging read, but important.

Qué curioso es catalogar este libro y asignarle un puntaje, porque ¿cómo evalúa uno el retrato descarnado de un torturado y su torturado? Benedetti, que experimenta la dictadura, que sabe reconocer las retóricas que la caracterizan, deja en esta obra en tres partes un testimonio crudo sobre la libertad y el autoritarismo.

Pedro es interrogado por el Capitán y en su encuentro se detona lo que los vuelve diferentes y similares. Mientras Pedro guarda silencio, el Capitán intenta convencerlo de confesar, de delatar a algunos nombres. Eventualmente Pedro habla sin delatar, hurga en lo que dice el Capitán, lo cuestiona. Cada vez que se miran, ambos se deterioran en sentidos muy distintos.

La tensión y sufrimiento de los personajes es tan realista y cercana para el lector que no se puede hacer más que sentir con los protagonistas durante todo el relato. Muy recomendada.

Harsh and almost painfully idealistic.

I asked myself when I read it and I ask me now that I remember it if, arrived the event, would I be able to invoke a Pedro inside me?

There are more layers in the piece indeed, but that's what struck me most.

Este libro es teatro.
Es una breve historia entre un preso y su torturador.
Es intenso, reflexivo, interesante.

No puedo decir que es mi obra favorita de Benedetti, tampoco puedo decir que me encanta, tampoco puedo decir que no me gustó.
Bien, Pedro es el preso y el Capitán es el torturador (de los "buenos", de los que hacen hablar a los presos sin demasiada violencia). La conversación que comparten no es intelectual ni mucho menos, son suposiciones (ciertas en casi todos los casos) e incitaciones.
Pedro está muerto, técnicamente, de verdad, no sé, pero está muerto, un muerto que habla.
Esta situación es muy interesante.
