The Best Of: Angel #3

1. Angel still being both guilt-ridden and snarky in this modern update. "For the homes I've burned. for the families I've torn apart. The heroes I have left to die. For what I was. And I am. I deserve a rag doll toss from a demonic crazy person. Still hurts, though.

2. Angel absolutely refusing to kill a possessed Winifred and saying, "I can't kill you. You don't deserve the thing inside you."

3. "You don't know how difficult it was to get a priest to bless a water balloon."

4. Angel rationalizing his questionable life choices in the way we all do. "I have a woman from an insane asylum in my home. This is fine. This is all fine."

5. Angel's instinct to just make tea when he feels like he needs to comfort someone.

6. LILITH! Literally, everything about Lilith: how she just appears looking fabulous, giving Angel vaguely helpful advice, being so gentle with Fred... Lilith is my favorite, and no one can convince me otherwise.

7. "Let me tell you what I have seen. A madwoman becomes a sorceress. A gun becomes your ally. And love will bring your greatest pain. You are becoming, Angel. What you call "evil" knows this." Damn, Bryan Edward Hill has stepped it up with the writing! This is amazing!

8. The whole idea that this evil knows the future (that we as fans of the original also knows) and is trying to subvert it and the future relationships Angel builds. Again, this is really good, clever writing that creates stakes while allowing for the series to play with the plotlines we know and subvert it in interesting ways.

9. Angel gently rejecting Fred's offer for blood for the circle and saying that she has given enough, instead using his own blood.

10. Lilith and Fred's gentle conversation about what will happen next. "No more pain?" "Not this pain. But you will have to suffer different pains. All of you will. It's hard to be this important. I wouldn't have made you this way."
