May appeal to readers who enjoy character-centered novels.  It featured strong female characters and lots of rich relationships.  However, I prefer plotty books and found this to be disappointingly predictable…

I found this book very interesting in the fact that all of the characters are heavily flawed. They're like real humans, and the story is very messy because of it, cause humans are messy creatures. The story also felt like the river that the characters live by - it ebbs and flows and changes from rushing to calmer and back in an instant. Definitely interesting.

Complete side note - I started reading this as I waited for my flight in an airport and was on the last page when the announced the flight for canceled.

A summer place where 2 young girls became forever friends and summer sisters. Now, in their 50s, their lives have taken different paths.
Bonny is a doctor, but after her childhood love, Owen, comes into the ER injured, she is distracted and gives a lethal dose of a drug to a patient who dies. She is now on leave, and returns to the summer house in Watersend, along with her teen daughter, Piper.
Lainey, Owen's younger sister, comes with her 2 young children. She is still searching for her mother that left them during one summer long ago. She has never gotten over the loss.
An emotional story of finding oneself, searching for your true self, and that one thing you need to do.
