"Is getting sick as you grow older just part of life? Like plants that sprout up, only to wither? Like early-morning birds that fall ill and die? "

"A bit of tension in life is helpful to grow stronger, and I guess it's the same with plants."

3.5 stars for this heartbreaking tale of a family impoverished living on memories of days gone by. Cooking can bring a family together and this shows proof of generations using the kitchen as their meeting space and a place that holds memories for all. I found the illustrations lackluster. Perhaps because it was all black and white, but I’ve liked that feature in other graphic novels before so I’m not sure what it was that made the illustrations unappealing for me.
