Hate how they treated the oldest daughter. Frustrating read. Clear copy of Little Women.

this book isn’t bad, just meh. the peppers (the family it follows) are very cute and their story is heartwarming, but as it is a book for children written about children, the kids in the book can get pretty annoying and they cry about every small inconvenience. cute cozy book, but has its downfalls that make it a meh read

My children rated it ☆☆☆☆
It was a charming little book with funny characters, delightful characters, and even characters that made you groan {we're looking at you little Miss Polly Pepper and all your whining!} My children enjoyed listening to all the little stories the Pepper children had in this book.

Great positive social modeling (empathy, helpfulness, diligence, support of family members). Being kind and cheerful and hardworking pays off with good luck, more convincingly than Cinderella. Some sketchy handling of children toddling off with strange men--in one case, one was apparently a bad guy, but the rest (the ones who weren't Gypsies, maybe?) were fine! Archaic language, social norms, and technology may require pauses for explanation to kids.

Gabe gave this 3 stars but I'm dropping it to 2. We both found it rather boring. The stories were so pointless. The kids were sickly sweet to each other. Sorry, but no siblings love each other that much... It just felt so long with nothing happening and the writing wasn't great either. Very much "tell" rather than "show" and a lot of it was spent saying who was talking.
