Another good book in the series. These are really fun! This one involved computer games and lots of twists and turns. :)

Coming off what is my favorite in the series so far, #3, some of the absurdity in this one felt like too much. I also found there was less laugh-out-loud humor, instead snickers and some smiles. There was a little suspense.

There was more tension between Michael and Meg in this one which was mostly from bad communication. Michael has shown a tendency towards jealousy, which continued here. Meg had to carefully frame some situations in her re-tellings and one time just hang up on him and turn her phone off when he disapproved of her choices. Granted, Meg did take some risks she needn't have. But instead of telling her "Don't do that" etc., he could've suggested "if you feel you must do this, then take these precautions, like invite Rob or your dad or Spike to keep watch or have your back." Why did she do all of these midnight sleuths alone? Instead reducing Dad and Rob to bumbling fools who foil her plans and hurt themselves.

Jack seemed more in tune with Meg and as she said, she was attracted to him. She and I were both rooting for him more than Michael in respect to relationship skills, flirting, job skills, etc.

As somewhat already stated, this one also suffered from poor communication and under-utilizing the family because instead we were introduced to SO MANY Mutant Wizard employees. Mother was only in communication through mail and phone with Meg and I missed her. Dad was extra silly and not as useful as he usually is. Rob's name was said a lot but his personality and situations in which he engaged with Meg were again, minimal and ridiculed him.

When did Meg learn martial arts? This just popped up all of a sudden and felt like that, instead of like something that fits that we are just only learning about her now. There was also an assault mentioned as something that happened in Meg's life before the series started that caught me off guard.

The Affirmation Bears seem like a solid product. Especially if the audio can be made more human-like.

OK this line about Rob made me snicker:
"He’d come over to Michael’s apartment to feed and walk Spike while the rest of us were at the hospital, and had stayed to empty the pantry."

And this one too:
“You didn’t tell us this was a hostage situation,” murmured an unfamiliar voice out in the hall. “It’s not,” I heard my brother, Rob, say. “That’s just my sister, Meg, keeping people away from the crime scene. Meg? It’s Rob. I have the police. Can we come in?”

And this silly nod to the buzzard:
“O-kay,” the chief said. “Thought for a moment maybe you’d waited a little too long to call us.”

And other passages marked on Kindle. (Which I can't see in this new Goodreads page format.)

Other lines:

"It was loathe at first sight."

I like "can you mind" to replace "can you man" the desk etc.

Food to try:
Broccoli on pizza?

This series has steady improved and I am now comfortable with saying I like it. I enjoyed this book. Its not the greatest book, but its a quick fun read. I'm not sure why but in this cozy mystery I'm never at the edge of my seat, trying to figure it out myself or dying to know who the murderer is. It is easily put downable but sometimes its nice to take a break from more involving books.

Quick and entertaining. Less of Meg's semi-annoying family, so overall, better than some of the others in this series! Although the bird theme in this one was really stretched, I'll let it go since it was so fun.
