Finally, we delve into the enigmatic Raphael Santiago! This novella delivers the backstory I've been craving, adding depth to this intriguing character. While his vampiric state may explain some things, his maturity and wisdom seem to stem from a deeper source. The blossoming connection between him and Magnus is undeniable, a reluctant friendship with a touch of warmth beneath the surface.

Well, this was nice. I admit I wasn't exactly looking forward to reading this, but I'm glad I did.
The Bane Chronicles, ah these books are so good. Better than TFTSA anyway.

I'm starting to like Raphael a lot more now, though I wouldn't call myself a stan at any point. I just like him more than I did before, which wasn't much to begin with. And RAGNOr, oh my god. I miss Ragnor Fell so much, I still cry over his death in CoG. I'm glad he and Raphael had a bonding of sorts, and even though Ragnor has stated to like boobs, ,,,,, I think I ship him with Raphael. They're both dead anyway.

Great book, made me laugh frequently and Magnus and Raphael's friendship slash bickering was beautiful.

This book was great because Raphael is a little shit. And he's really funny. I appreciated the way that he and Ragnor make fun of Magnus, that made me laugh.

But really? Magnus gets a really bad rap earlier on in the original series, but he's done a lot of shit to help other characters in the past.

Why couldn't a dark woman be beautiful, comparing her to a blonde? That irked me from the get go and came across a bit racist, even though I'm fairly sure that wasn't the case. The story was good though. I liked the mystery element of this story and found the villain to be abhorrent. Magnus was such a good guy (as always) and I felt bad for Raphael. Poor kid! Very committed though. He clearly had a big impact on Lily.

This story just really highlights the great character of Magnus Bane. He is quickly becoming my favorite.
