Interesting short story that captures the slow, crawling dread of the unavoidable very well. A very biblical exploration of humanity and nature.

A fascinating read that pushes us to re-think our relationship with light and dark.

this was rlly good. very fun, excellent world building, and the characters + emotions were pretty good too for a short story. the commentary on how ppl don't listen to scientists and don't prepare for what they know is coming hit hard rn lol.
i found myself wondering why they didn't invent any sort of artificial light throughout the years though- surely they would have wanted to explore caves and such? that was never really resolved.
it was really good and interesting but i don't really get why it's been consistently rated ~ the best science fiction story ever ~

I remember reading the book when I was a child. I was going through a phase where I decided to try some of my daddy's books and he mainly reads science fiction. I think I'd liked it. I don't remember what my exact thoughts were but this was one of the few books among my father's many books that I read to the end. I got it again on Kindle as a proof against the paperback being destroyed or lost. So I decided to read it again. I liked the first two parts more or less. I disliked the third part. I especially disliked the characters that they decided to focus on for that last part. I would've preferred the scientists to be the focus. Also, I found it hypocritical that the whole book, many characters spoke up against religion and then the solution to the problem at the end was religion. I was thoroughly disgusted.

Good narrative and interesting concept but didn't understood the idea of people getting mad if there was no light. The story is majorly about the different group of people reaction towards a solar eclipse.
