... I'm not too sure about that doorknob/string business.

Love me a locked room mystery, and was very into the structure of this mystery unfolding as the trial went along, gave me major Phoenix Wright vibes. Compelling mystery with a logical conclusion that I was once again nowhere near guessing myself. One of these days!

interesting format and not the type of mystery i usually read. i am much more partial to the character-driven side of things than to this sort of book, which is mostly about ingenious plotting. however it was still interesting and i appreciated that it moved along quite quickly (no belaboring of the story once certain aspects were cleared up) and that the solution, though convoluted, didn’t feel cheap or unfair. again not my usual thing but i enjoyed it well enough

This is a courtroom drama about a locked room mystery. The solution of how the murder was done is clever enough, but the identity of the culprit felt kind of boring. The pace of the book was slow. This may be because of the courtroom setup, where everything is happening in retrospect. There were one or two sections that were mildly amusing (see my Kindle highlights).
I'm hoping to try another John Dickson Carr sometime that's a little more zippy.

Enjoyed this even though I guessed who did it. I am getting better at figuring out these locked room mysteries! A couple of surprises at the end kept me from being complacent. I've been wrong so many times in the past.
