I really loved this, but there was something creepy af about reading it right after Conflict is Not Abuse. Like I kind of identify with Delores and feel like Schulman/narrator wants to righteously murder me. But I like the feeling? idk

errrr yeah, did not have a great time with this one.

the good: there are some great sentences in this book! some really poignant moments! evil, unlikeable women!

the bad: kinda the rest of everything. the first chapter really hooked me and then i went back and read the author introduction and got a bit of an ick that lasted through the rest of the first half (which immediately started dragging). congrats, a straight man thought this was the best lesbian book ever… great. there were some highlights in the middle, especially with coco and beatriz. however, charlotte’s character all but ruined the book for me. like, given priscilla’s gun, she would’ve been the first person i went after. also, while there were stand-out sentences, a lot of the writing fell a bit flat for me. there wasn’t a lot i found myself wanting to return to.

i would be remiss not to mention the TYPOS in this edition. it got to the point where it was legitimately distracting and i WILL count it against the book because who allowed it to be published in this state??

overall, my physical tbr - backlist is not doing very well right now in terms of ratings. please, let it be known, i actually prefer unlikeable lesbians (hi Cassandra at the Wedding) but this book just didn't work for me; probably in part because the weird parts felt silly compared to Story of My Teeth. this book is my first flop of march :(
