Daycare owner Neve (h) signs up with a poly dating app and connects with Oliver (H), a reclusive writer, who’s decided he and his friends should try to find ‘the one.’ While they share an attraction, it turns out that Neve and Oliver also share a past childhood trauma, an incident which his brother, police detective, Oscar (H) still pursues. When Neve is in danger, she moves in with Oscar, Oliver, Remi (H), Cope (H), and Jesse (H), and things heat up between them with the exception of Jesse who just can’t seem to accept her. But even as the attraction builds, there is so much action and danger as the ‘Lost Boys’ serial kidnapper/killer continues toying with Neve and her men. This was so amazingly good – the heat and sexual encounters, the richness of the characters, and the cat-and-mouse threats. Holy shoot (as Neve would say)! That. Freaking. Ending. Another book! What do you mean I can only give it five stars?

✨arc review✨

I loved the concept of this book, its inspired by Peter Pan but it’s not a smutty retelling like a few I have read. The plot is pretty good.

Don’t go into the book expecting spice right away, it doesn’t get spicy till about halfway through which was fine for me. There was a few phrases that I didn’t understand and I wasn’t sure if they were typos or just something I’ve never heard before.

There were a few cringy spots like cope talking to himself then thinking about talking about himself lol

The only thing I had a problem with was the constant change of POV and it didn’t tell you at the beginning of the chapter whos POV it’s in. There are a few different character POVs so it would take me 1-2 pages to figure out who’s POV it was in. Sometimes it would take up to 3-4 pages to figure it out, so establishing who’s talking would be extremely helpful.

Other than that I loved the book and it was refreshing to get a non magical Peter Pan inspired story.

Five was a suspenseful, spicy why choose that was pretty interesting to read. There was some action, suspenseful moments, steamy scenes, and times I wanted to smack some sense into Jesse. It was overall a pretty quick read for me, and I may read the next book because of the ending.

Although this is book 5 in the series, it's the only one (so far) that I've read and can confirm that I read and enjoyed Five. While I haven't read Evie Rae before, I am familiar with Poppy Flynn and this is an intriguing change in style, and while it's not as light as most of her other books, this story wasn't as dark as I feared. Taking inspiration from Peter Pan and the Lost Boys this is a great read with wonderful characters, although I did find it difficult to keep everyone straight at the start. Particularly as there seem to be side characters that may or may not come to greater importance. The authors have been clear that this a HFN and not HEA so keep that in mind and you shouldn't be disappointed.

This was such a good book with a gripping storyline and a cliffhanger that had me rushing off to see when the next book is due out as I need to know what happens next!!

The mixture of a storyline based on spice and a poly relationship with that of a kidnapper and stalker added some great elements giving a delicious mixture of tension - both sexual and not, danger, lust, love, chemistry, friendship. It had everything and I loved it.

The different POV’s and the backgrounds for each at the beginning did a great job of character building without being an information dump and helped to understand the relationships each of the men had not only with each other but with Neve too.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Let me just say I am weak when it comes to any why choose books <3 If I had to choose who my favorite between all the men I would 100% sat Cope because the amount of sarcasm this man had was making me giggle. But my god who sweet and caring all of them are for Neve :)

4 STARS ✨

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Five: A Dark Why Choose Romance Inspired by Peter Pan and the Lost Boys from Booksprout in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Five is great for fans of:
• Fans of their favourite childhood Disney movies being given a darker twist
• Why choose?
• A mystery that keeps you in suspense with twists and turns
• Found family

Flynn and Rae have created a haunting, contemporary parallel of Peter Pan in The Florida Keys. When our main female character, Neve, was a child, her brother was one of the countless boys kidnapped and believed to be taken onto one of the islands, never to return. Regardless of the shadows of her past, after graduating, Neve decides to return home for the first time since her brother’s disappearance to start up a day care centre. As someone who is career focused Neve is reluctant to cave into her desires of pursing a polyamorous relationship, and it is not until her best friend signs her up for an app and she meets Oliver, an author who is much closer to her past than she could have anticipated.

Of course, it is at this point when the past begins to haunt Neve once again: Neve’s daycare centre is broken into, the kidnaps resume, and the culprit doesn’t seem to be finished with Neve. With her safety on the line, Neve has no choice but to move in with the boys as things begin to unravel — and it’s not just the case that gets complicated.

I did enjoy Five. The prequel, B4, is added to the beginning and provides snippets that allow you to instantly engage with the protagonists that you are about to see throughout the novel. Although it is useful, you can read the main story without it and wouldn’t have any issues, it just provides some context of the character’s backgrounds when they are mentioned throughout the story. The novel provides numerous twists and turns that leave you eager to find out what happens next, and the twist on the Peter Pan tale we all know and love is creative and works incredibly well.

A large majority of the novel is focused on Neve getting to know all of the boys, which is incredibly important, with the mystery parts of the novel taking more of a prominent role in the beginning and the end. Although I loved all of the content of Neve and her boys, with scenes that I can reassure any ‘why choose’ reader will love, I am looking forward to more plot driven content in the second book, Six, where we will hopefully get some of the answers to the easter eggs dropped throughout Five. I thought that it was especially clever of Flynn and Rae to include Beck’s in the prequel to tease his appearance in Six, as I am excited to see him take more of a focal role.

The one character I wasn’t a massive fan of was Jesse. Although his attitude and anxieties were understandable after his past experiences, his hot and cold behaviours did feel a bit whiplash at some points and were a bit uncomfortable to read, but I don’t think that it’s something that is going to follow on through to Six.

As said in the blurb, you can easily stop at Five, I’d say at the penultimate chapter especially, and finish content that Neve and her men have their ‘happy for now.’ However, with so much remaining to be seen, I will be reading Six and would encourage anyone else who enjoys this book to do the same. There will be a whole new playing field with Beck, and I can’t wait to see what he brings, alongside the mystery and intrigue of the ‘Lost Boys’ case.

Are they truly lost forever, or do they simply join the cause? Will Nicky remain the ghost of Oliver and Neve’s past, or will he return as someone that tears apart their memories entirely? I’m so lost in the suspense!

Peter Pan lovers, you need to get onto this one.
