I can't believe i never read these before, each volume in the 12 book set i have is a delight, this is number 5. Mr Brown (Paddington to you and me)has more fantastic everyday adventures with a spot of gardening and an impromptu trip on a lawnmower. Next up is a day out in the park with Mr Gruber, and the bandstand, it is never going to go smoothly with Paddington around. Then the Browns get a new televisoin set, and Paddington catches an intruder in the house. Paddington then gathers everyone round the new tv for the evenings viewing, but he is nowhere to be seen, until the show begins, Paddington is a contestant on the show, Anne Robinson would have mether match with Paddington! The next adventure involves a little experiment in making toffee, in which a trip to the hospital follows. Its getting near to christmas so its time for some shopping - Paddington takes a trip to the bargain basement. Finally its pantomime time and Paddington is enlisted to create the sound effects.

Another adorable and charming Paddington book. Whether its making toffee or appearing on a game show, Paddington is so endearing in all of his adventures. This is a nice continuation of the Paddington series. Great for fans of the previous books.

The old favorites make their appearances (Mrs. Bird, Mr. Gruber, even mean old Mr. Curry) and Paddington makes plenty of new friends along the way as well. Silly, fun, and entertaining, this book full of new adventures is such to delight Paddington fans.

Note on the illustrations: In Chapter Four: Paddington Hits the Jackpot, there are two illustrations of Paddington with what appears to be a cigar (one at the beginning and one at the end). There is no mention in the text of Paddington smoking, but for whatever reason the illustrations include it. The book was written in the 60s, so different time and all that, but it's good to know going into it. It doesn't take away from the story, but it may be useful for parents to know about an adorable talking bear depicted smoking beforehand.

Overall, a wonderful story about a friendly bear making his mark on the world in pure Paddington fashion.

A gentle and funny adventure in each chapter, a little formulaic but children were charmed.

For some reason, even thought so far the Paddington books are pretty much all exactly alike, they are still wildly entertaining, and my 6-year-old and I cackle away the whole time...
