This was fine. I liked the artwork, but the writing was hard to get into. The notes and glossary sections were useful, though, great if you wanted to do research on monsters.

i typically have a rule that i’m not allowed to buy books i’ve never heard of but this one called to me so strongly i had to give in…and it did not disappoint. a rich weaving of fantasy and reality, poetry and memoir and critique, coming together to create a delicious chronicle of the other, the in-between, the monster, and the monstrous + gorgeous vicious illustration

A fascinating text that has more in common with poetry than fiction. It's a must read if you want a poetic rumination on colonialism, anthropology, and internalized racism of people seen as "other."
