I enjoyed Summer and the City a little bit more than The Carrie Diaries, but neither was what I expected after watching the television show first. I can honestly say, this is one of the very few instances where I like the movie/TV show better than the book. The storyline wasn't that well developed, and I found myself waiting for more to happen. As a big fan of the HBO series, I was longing to hear the Carrie I know and love shine through, and unfortunately that just didn't happen for me. I would recommend for fans of the franchise, after all it is still interesting to get some more background story.

I liked this book but I didn't like it as much as the 1st one. I liked how this focused more about how Carrie "fell in love" with NY and how she met Samantha and Miranda. Fun how Charlotte was introduced at the end of this one because that probably means there will be another book after this one.

This was a fun summer read but it took me a week to read (very weird for me because I read the 1st one pretty fast).

This book had more sex, drugs, etc than the 1st book.

Characters in the story: I didn't like Bernard, Carrie's love interest. Kind of reminded me of Aleksandr Petrovsky so I really didn't like him at all. I knew Carrie would end up hooking up with Capote. I liked L'il...felt bad what happened to her and I just felt like she was dumped in the book when she left New York and I wanted her in the book longer. Overall, I was confused at some points of the book remembering all of the characters.

I would recommend this book to people that liked Sex and the city (both the tv show and the movies) but they would have to read Carrie Diaries first.

*3.5 stars * I liked it better than the first one. More of the sex and city that I'm familiar with.

The book was interesting but was definitely a summer read as opposed to an 'intellectual' read. I did enjoy it but got a bit annoyed with Carrie due to her desperateness and her ignorance.
Overall, I rate this 3 stars because I felt the story didn't really pick up and capture my interest 100%.

All I can say, is that if you loved the Sex and the City TV show, you will love this book. It was full of Candice Bushnell's quirky observations on love and modern life just like the series and even though you know ultimately how it is going to end, it still takes you on an hilariously exciting journey through New York to see how Carrie meets her best friends.

Highly recommended for Carrie Bradshaw fans.

Summer and the City is a coming of age story about Carrie Bradshaw's journey of making it in New York City as a writer.
I loved reading about Carrie's journey of becoming a writer in New York City, and all of the ups and downs she experienced along the way.
I loved reading about all of the quirky people she met and how they shaped who she is today.
I found Carrie's story very inspiring.

I've had this book on my "Want to read" for a long time and have a copy and was in between other books over the holidays so thought now was as good a time as any to read it. Snooze. I struggled to get through this and found myself skimming it more than reading it. It was like reading a bad episode of Sex and the City. Every part of this book was boring.

It tells the story of how Carrie met Samatha and Miranda and was incredibly lacking in anything resembling an interesting plot. The most interesting part of the book was the crazy woman Carrie rented a room from at the very beginning of the book.

Fun reading about young Carrie! Describes how she befriends Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte.
