Beautiful. Really, genuinely beautiful. The art was just loose enough that you could lose yourself in the story and not focus on the details of it whilst still be beautiful in the larger panels. The relationship was so intimate and well done. I thought this handled such tough topics in a very thoughtful manner by not making light of any of the atrocities but still having them viscerally present in the narrative. The line "Time moves in one direction and love stands still" is insanely gorgeous. My only qualm is that it was too short! It could have benefited from being much longer to delve into the character's relationships because it did feel like it happened very fast - although, that could be seen as a good thing for this story as it is characterised by overwhelming change and things happening too suddenly. Would have rated higher if it had been given more time to expand on the characters because even in this short amount of pages, I connected to them very quickly, so imagine if it was given more time! Brill read, definitely a good comic.

Beautiful. This depiction of gay love in Nazi Germany is more day-to-day, more intimate, more slice of life than others I have read. Rather than focusing on the atrocities of being arrested, this focuses on what queer love looked like, what conversations looked like, what normal *life* looked like. Not focusing on death is not something I'm used to from Holocaust era gay stories, and this was perfection.

If this novel were longer, giving the characters more time to develop and the tensions of the time some more time to grow, this would have been my first 5⭐ read of 2024.

Too short, really. An American businessman in Berlin falls in with the artistic crowd just as Hitler is rising to power, and the man he loves makes himself a target with his opposition to the government. I liked seeing the time period depicted and a queer relationship developing during such a moment; however, I think it didn't have enough space to fully develop. The ending felt somewhat abrupt and anti-climactic.
