Wow!

I’ve been in a book funk and asked a friend to refer some books to help me! Wow this book did that and was truly amazing. I was so sad to see it ended and I plan to look more into this author!!!! Read read read this book!

Not going to rate this one, 'cause I gave up pretty early on.
Unfortunately, this wasn't my cup of tea.
Not that I really have anything negative to say, as always, Callie Hart does a great job, but the angst was just way too much.

This book took my heart and made my breath catch. Coralie and Callan are just such fantastic characters. Callie Hart did a fantastic job of making these characters believable, and giving them an ability to tug at the heart. What’s crazy is that I can see why other people might think that Callan is kind of a crass callous person, but really that’s just a wall he built because he’d been hurt. It was unfathomable to me that Coralie could be so put together in the face of everything that she had been through. I do kind of get why it took Callan a little bit to get over the many secrets that Coralie had been keeping. He told her everything, and she kept secrets, granted to keep him safe but that is still a hurtful thing.

This book was fantastic, and I’m breaking my own romance rule and giving it 4 out of 5 stars. Mostly because while at it’s heart it was romance, it didn’t always feel like that. It felt mostly like two people finding their way back to each other as they discovered their own truth.

*trigger warning: highly detailed physical/domestic abuse*

While I enjoyed this overall I had 2 main issues:
1. I felt a bit uncomfortable with the way Callan would talk. He was very upfront, demanding, knew what he wanted kind of dialogue. In regards to Coralie's history, it just felt a little off putting and strange to have someone like this be so close to Coralie..
2. A small handful of times it got so very detailed about sex scenes. Now I don't have problems with sex scenes (I read a lot of PwP/heavy smut fanfics) however mixed with my first point with Callan, it just got annoying and again just wanted to done with.

This book is hot hot hot. The sexy steam is 5 stars for sure. The story of Callan and Coralie's love is one tainted with hidden truths, horrible loss and years of separation. However, it's also a story of soulmates, true love and never giving up. Callan is so sweet, and Coralie, despite her history, is still extremely strong. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a tortured past romance. It's very good.

Not for the faint hearted.

There are some very confronting scenes in this dark, dangerous and deadly world. Dealing with young forbidden love and treacherous family is never easy. But true Love, and destruction conquer all. HEA

Calico

This book was dark. The story had pain and tackled deep subject matter. There were parts that were hard to get through at times for me but I continued on hoping to get to the resolution. There was a happy ending. I just don't think author sufficiently dealt with the issue of Coralie and her father. All the emotions are there in this book, I was left wanting more.

I'm not in the right frame of mind to read something like this. Will try again later.
