seems like a really good book but it’s too dark for me

I wanted to throw up the entire book!!!!!!!!!!! But that ending I think I re read the last chapter about 5 times. Extra .5 for the ending

I read this and I read it fast. I was pretty hooked. Baseline probably three stars for some of the occasionally nasty imagery alone (there could have been more for a book about cannibalism I’M SORRY). Why two stars?

The main character gave me nothing. His actions often felt out of no where. I get the hopeless ending, but it felt abrupt. Some of the “symbolism” was so blunt. The puppy thing?
Also, I think if you’re going to go with ~we eat people rather than plant based proteins now~ you have to give the reader more. Obviously the author is going with man is evil (see puppy thing above). Everyone?? Is evil?? That’s the moral?
It’s a cool and gross horror, I think it could have been cooler and grosser with additional nuance.
