I wanted to read as a follow up to the excellent “Small Things Like These” by Claire Keegan.

Here the subject matter is similar, but the novel suffers from inconsistent plot choices and lackluster writing. I wanted more detail on the atrocities of the laundries, but the novel had too many distracting sub-plots. Like what else can afflict these people!

I would recommend for fans of YA fiction, but I prefer my fiction more literary. As a cultural document, I did not glean any additional insights into the true events that occurred across Ireland, Canada and the U.S. (and it to be fair, as the epilogue points out, it wasn’t just the Catholics who perpetrated these trafficking crimes!)

I enjoyed the book, it was entertaining and it pissed me off in so many ways, especially growing up catholic and being one of “those” girls that visibly had sex outside of marriage….
The story did seem to drag on though…. Everytime I would think it was almost over there was still so much to go…. And then the fire of the orphanage where the girls lost not only their friend, but Nora’s baby……….
The ending seem soooo rushed and there was nothing about what happened to Nora…… and poor Colin.

It was decent until the end where it took a strange turn. Definitely didn't see that coming but it also didn't really make sense
