I enjoyed this book, but my biggest criticism is that as a historical fiction book, it was very hard to place in time and setting. It was several chapters in before I had a good idea that it was set in Ireland. and nothing about it anchored it in the sixties. Other than that the plot was interesting if a little slow.

I'd never heard of the Magdalen Houses before listening to this book, never would have believed they were a thing, especially not as long as they were. But the world has ways of surprising you like that.
This book was tough. Heart-wrenching in parts, enraging in others, I just wanted to hold each of the characters and help guide them through their individual struggles. While there were some parts of the plot that seemed more slapped in than actually belonging to the story, the book as a whole has stuck with me, and likely will continue to.

Enjoyed this book. I have read a few similar. Set in Ireland in the 60's. A story of so called "broken girls" being sent to a convent to repent their sins. I love stories involving willful and strong women.
