It feels wrong rating this book 5. But I gave it 5 stars not because I liked how "dark and depressing" this book is but because I got caught up with the story. Reminds me how tragic human lives could end up in effect of unfavorable circumstances and the evils living among us.

I despised 99% of the characters but it was a good read. Tess deserved better

It was such a struggle reading this due to my reading level, but it’s so powerful and so heart breaking as a young woman to return to and reread after studying it in school. Its rare I like books written by men about women and I know Thomas Hardy is a grey area, but Tess is one of my favourite labours of love.

I’m probably the weirdest person ever, but I read this in school and I LOVED IT. Literally my favourite book ever!!! The characters, although very annoying, were incredibly intriguing and truly made me have to think.
