This was an engaging read but the mystery just wasn't gripping enough for my liking. I feel it was somewhat downplayed and the reveal came far too easily. There was no solving - the information was given almost immediately when confronting the suspected person(s) and overall I was just a little let down by it all. We had really good build up for it to all be over in the last 40 or so pages. I would definitely read more from this author, however, and I would recommend this should someone ask me if it is worth reading

It’s a massive Rubik’s Cube game of psychology and trickery - blink and you might miss it. Jess is a great protagonist with an extraordinary memory. However, there may be a few things that she gets wrong. Memory is the most vital element in our lives because, without it, people are confused, isolated and abused, which is something that happens to our hero when things get out of control. Without giving it away, the story topples one after the other like dominoes.

Each prelude to a chapter also invites you to test your memory skills and see if you’re smarter than you think. Although I'm definately not useful in that area! As someone who has studied “Psychology” back at Uni, this was a treat to back to and investigate it in more depth into the literary world.

To conclude, Ms Darnton’s debut novel is such a fascinating & thrilling exploration of how our memories can define us & how it can also deceive us as to who we are. It’s an enthralling & suspenseful story filled with all sorts of secrets & lies. Just like looking at the surface of a swimming pool, are our memories a reflection or refraction?

What a spooky book. It's a fabulous idea, what we remember and how we remember and what happens when our memory is so intact and powerful. An interesting read.
