I thoroughly enjoyed this book about the bittersweet life of L.M. Montgomery. The final pages of the epilogue are particularly poignant:

"Maude suffered from chronic depression, and likely also from bouts of manic depression, yet she produced twenty novels and hundreds of short stories, even in her most difficult and depressive years. "
"Often sad, Maud provided laughter and joy for others."

"Perfect happiness I have never had-never will have," she confided to her journal. "Yet there have been, after all, many wonderful and exquisite hours in my life."

Good book. It reads very fast, but covers Montgomery's life very well.

As a big fan of the Anne of Green Gables series, I have been curious about the life of the author. I had this book on my to-read list for several years and figured it was time to finally read it! I am glad I did. I learned a lot about her life and found it to be really interesting and sometimes very sad. I liked hearing about where some of her thoughts in her writing stemmed from too.

It was such an honor to read this lovely and informative biography about the charming and difficult life of Lucy Maud Montgomery. It seems to me that this work is written for people who have read and loved Anne of Green Gables. A self-made woman, Maud lived through grief, heartache, and mental illness in herself and family members. But oh did she have a knack for living life and enjoying ideas and nature and kindred spirits. She was so much like Anne, though Anne had a swept away, healing ending. Highly recommended.
