I really enjoyed this book... more than Drums of Autumn and The Fiery Cross. There was more mystery and dramatic events to make the story interesting.

- The whole Malva Christie situation, it was exciting and intriguing.
- I was shocked at the end of the book when the printing date for the fire was wrong. Crazy.

Some of my favorite characters from the show made their first appearance in the books in this novel. The atmosphere was, by far, my favorite part. I learned so much about local North Carolina history while reading this one; the writing was great. Now, as for the show this book encompasses, it is my least favorite season, so it had a lot of the same plot points. I thought it was interesting how plot points went in different paths on the show, like in a different order. I love this book, but it wasn't my favorite in the series.

This series is essentially the written version of a soap opera - always a new drama, someone has been kidnapped or murdered or disappeared...in saying that I'm now in too deep to stop, and I do really enjoy Davina Porter's narration of the audiobooks. She really makes the characters and scenery come to life. I only wish they weren't *quite* so long (57hrs!!!)

I always meant to get back to this and maybe I will someday, but not any time soon. I just can’t. How many times must they save each other? It was fun and thrilling in the beginning. It just got old. I hate leaving a series incomplete, especially having gone this far…
