Compelling with an edge. This one was a pleasant surprise! The pair have a smoldering sweetness that makes their insta-bond palatable. The fast connection felt organic because of the specific forms of magic they each possess. Even with the immediate recognition they each feel for the other, there's enough of a plot to make the read a worthwhile one.

Well, this was a quick read. I liked it, but I think the short format was too short for me to really invest in these characters. For me, this might've worked better as a full novel. But, I might check out the author's other work, since this is sort of a guest star spot in Nocturne Falls series.

I was really excited to find out that Kristen invited some authors to write some Nocturne Falls Universe stories. If you've read the Nocturne Falls series by Kristen Painter, you'll know why I and several other readers love this world that Kristen has created. If you haven't you are missing out on some good books. Who wouldn't want to move to a town, where Halloween is every day and you get to see vampires, witches, gargoyles, wolves, fae, etc.?

I give this book 4 stars and look forward to reading more books from Sela Carsen. Thanks to Kristen Painter for introducing another PNR author to me and also thanks to Kristen and Sela for keeping my Nocturne Falls addiction going. :)

Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

Trick Scanlon stops in Nocturne Fall to visit his friend and fellow soldier, Nick. But he gets introduced to the supernatural side of the two when a playful horse tries to drown him. Then he is saved by a mermaid's song.

"Honey, if you sat on a rock and never sang a note, I'd still dive into deep water to get to you."

This was a fun and fast past novella. Daria is a rusalka, a water fae, who hates to be called a mermaid. She helps rescue Trick and quickly falls for him, especially once they sing together. It was its own kind of magic. I really liked both Trick and Daria. They were unique supernaturals and I hope they pop up in future books.

Overall, this was a fun novella with some unique supernaturals. Also I enjoyed the horse. It was a cute side character.

Watery magic

A tale that really brings nocturnal falls into a new light. Meet the other residents that are hidden in the background. See the town with new eyes and enjoy a beautiful tale of music, strength and the past that haunts and controls. Thank t really had me enchanted throughout but has an amazing message of understanding for those with ptsd throughout.

Good news for fan of Nocturne Falls - there are more Authors joining the fun!

I have never read anything by Carsen, so I was very excited to discover a new PNR author!
The thing that amazed me most about this was that this felt so much like the other NF stories and books. Carsen extended the NF Universe seamlessly. It's so well done, that would I have not known it was written her, I would have just assumed it was written by Painter.
The world building is just as imaginative and clever, just like Painter she takes bits of mythology and makes it her own. I loved the Kelpie!!
The character building is done just a flawless. It was interesting to get to know the two MCs and revisit some old characters, whom I love. And can I say again how well Carsen fits things in with Painter? Because her Nick and Willa are exactly as I remember them, it was literally revisiting old friends. Brilliantly done.
My only little issue however, was the romance. It was a lot too insta for me. Though the chemistry between Trick and Daria is smoldering however and I did enjoy that.

Extremely well written and the beautiful music scenes make this a fabulous addition to Nocturne falls.

I love mermaids, so this story already had a plus from me. I also love country music, so we are two for two. The story itself was fun and the outside threat seemed pretty real, so it was a most enjoyable read.
