Set in the same universe as The Three, with some references back to what happened in that book. You don't have to read The Three first, but why wouldn't you?

Day four of a cruise, headed back to port in Florida. Everything seems to go wrong. Seems. Not everything is as it seems, and not everyone is what they seem to be.

The medium on board, doing her nightly shows, and her long-suffering assistant. The tabloid reporter trying to expose her. The two older women who have a strange relationship that defies an easy label. The dull but loving husband who has a small serial-killing habit. The cruise director you will soon hate as much as the passengers do.

The engines fail. All the communications systems fail. But...they're off the coast of Florida. They're near major shipping lanes. Why has the ocean gone still? And the skies, with no air traffic at all?

Another great, slow build into a situation that is just barely outside of what you could logically explain. The way people treat each other in a crisis can be scary enough, but what happens when you throw in some "outside" influences?

Again, someone please read this so I'll have someone to talk to about it without worrying about spoilers.

After the fun and creativity of "The Three", I really expected more from this.

My library stacked this as horror, it was definitely not as scary or thrilling as I expected. The first 150 pages or so were a bit boring in my opinion. I pictured this as a creepy version of Titanic, but it wasn't. It was a lot of backstory, uninteresting conversations and people complaining. The last 70 pages or so were very interesting, but basically a whole other book/new story.

This is supposed to be the 'sequel' to The Three but it can be read on its own. Could not put it down. It's one of those books that days later is still with me.

On the one hand it really fucked me up, mostly because I'm already terrified of the ocean and I basically hate ships and I feel like that lent a lot to my "enjoyment" of the story (if you could call it that).

However, I found it incredibly hard to keep track of the multiple view points and characters, there were just way too many to keep up with and it became increasingly more difficult to like any of them because there were so many.

Plus, the story itself never really wrapped up. The ending was a complete mess and felt more like the author just tried to shove as many different "disasters" into the story as possible.

It was definitely the cruise ship from hell, but it was also the story from hell and made quite possibly no sense whatsoever.

A really disappointing book, that kept you on edge until the last second whereby you've read the rest so you may as well finish the last few pages...
