My Review:
I read this book because my 9 year old handed to me and told me it’s her favorite book ever and that I have to read it. “It’s gonna make you laugh and then your going to want to cry, I already know your going to cry! I cried! But don’t worry it’s cute, your going to love it Mom!”. So I promised I’d finish it by the end of the night & that’s exactly what I did. Winn Dixie is a beautiful tale about how a lonely girl finds the greatest friend in a dog that comes crashing into her life within a grocery store. And of course, just as my 9 year old said (she knows how much I’m a sucker for dogs), I loved it.

My Daughter, Rose’s Review:
Hi I read all because of Winn Dixie. And I would Recommend this to people that love ❤️ dogs and this is a book that will make you laugh, and cry, and happy

TPL Challenge 2023: A book written from a child's point of view.

I probably read this book for the first time about 15 years ago on summer vacation, and I still remember some quotes by heart. It was comforting to consume it a second time in audiobook form while packing up my apartment.

When reading it as a child, I interpreted Winn-Dixie as some kind of special dog like Opal does. Re-reading it as an adult I can see now that Opal just needed somewhere to put her feelings of loneliness and the dog was a way for her to open herself to others.

While the new edition removes mention of Gone With The Wind and the comment that the Civil War was fought over states' rights (which is voiced by a very old woman, not the protagonist), I am also going to seek out some coming of age books set in the South by Black authors to get a more well rounded view into growing up in that time and place.

This book really spoke to me. I listened to it twice on CD (from the library), let my kids listen to it, and then bought a copy for home.

There is so much kindness in the book.
