Yadriel is trans, but his traditional Latinx family is having trouble accepting it. They insist he can only be a bruja (healer) when he is confident his destiny is to be a brujo, working with his father, brothers, and other male relatives to help ghosts cross over. But after he secretly completes his brujo ritual with the help of his cousin, he accidentally summons the ghost of a boy from school that has just died that night. When Yadriel tries to release him into the afterlife, it fails. The boy, Julian, is not ready to go. Not until he finds out what happened to him and whether his friends are safe.

I thought this was a lovely story, though it was hard to root for some of the adults. Yadriel struggles to be true to himself but also not disappoint his family. You can tell that all he wants is to make them proud, even if they don't know what he's capable of yet. I was afraid of the ending, but it ended up being really nice.
