The town of Port Gamble Washington is shocked by an exchange student’s murder at a Halloween party and not long after, another local teen is murdered.

The Ryan twins set out to solve the murder with the help of their supernatural abilities. In the midst of working towards solving the murder, the girls discover a shocking secret from a family member’s past. Relationships of all kinds will be tested while everyone waits for the murderer to be found. Will the murderer be someone everyone knows or were the killings random? Follow along with the HayTay twins to find out what went down in Port Gamble.

I quickly connected with the characters (both the likeable and unlikeable ones) and I wanted to keep reading to see how the plot played out. I didn’t realize until I was almost finished reading the book that this was the second novel in a series. It did not impact my understanding of the plot and this could be read as a stand alone book. I now look forward to reading the first book and seeing how the HayTay story began.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley and for letting me take part in this double tour. I really like Gregg's writing style so I was excited to read this revamped series.

This book was a little darker than the first one. There was a slight change in focus too. The Ryan twins were still very much the main characters but Brianna and her boyfriend took up the side roles from Starla and her mum. While we learnt a lot about the Twins in the first book their gifts are still quite an unknown along with their family history. More of this was revealed in this book and I found this really interesting.

The case itself was horrific. When the truth was finally revealed I was shocked. I know this book was based on true events and that thought just horrifies me. Gregg did an excellent job of keeping me in suspense throughout the book and while I had slight inklings as to who might be involved I didn't work everything out.

I really hope we can revisit the Ryan twins. I love the girls and I'd love to see how their gifts keep affecting their lives.

This was a great follow-up to Greg Olson's 1st book in this series. We now have just a tiny bit more info on their abilities and their accident but I still want more! This was a bit of wild ride - an accident that looked like a murder and a murder classified as an accident!

Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
I was mixed on this book. There were parts I really enjoyed and got sucked in and others that felt drawn out and boring, because of that, it took me longer than normal to finish this. I read the first book of the Port Gamble and this continues with the twins stories of how they can feel and see things others can’t. Another murder and searching for the killer. There were some twists to this, but nothing jaw-dropping. Overall, it was just an ok book for me, not bad but also not one I was completely enthralled with either. If you like his writing style and the first book, this will be a great book for you!

This is the second instalment of Empty Coffin series featuring Hayley and Taylor Ryan. I've read the fist one too, so it was easier for me to know the characters in the book, but I think that it is not a problem to read this one as a standalone. Since I know Gregg Olson as a true crime writer, every book for Ryan sisters is inspired by one true crime case.
This story is about foreign exchange student from England that was stabbed to death during a Halloween party right in the start of this novel. The host of the party Brianna Connors and her boyfriend Drew seem to act in a unusual way for a teenagers who found dead Olivia. They are immediately accused, judged, and found guilty by the press and social media.
In time of the killing twin sisters Taylor and Hayley are both awakened by the sense that something is very wrong, just like they felt one year earlier when their childhood friend died.
While they are investigating what exactly happened in the present, they start unraveling secrets from their own past. The story is easy to follow and it's bit interesting to read about teenage spitefulness throughout the book.
It kept my attention and had to read it in almost one sitting. I had to guess who was the murderer until the end. I enjoyed reading the book and if there is another instalment in this series, I will read it too.

Thank you to Netgalley, Gregg Olsen and Bookouture for the Audio Arc of Dying to be her. This is the second in the series of the Port Gamble Chronicles and pretty much picks up from the first book several years later. Really love how descriptive Gregg is with the  narrative, Its very gripping with a few twists and turns which keeps you engaged. The pacing of the story is great. You get a few steady parts and then it picks up pace with the twists and the pay off. Which, for me is great as it gives you chance to digest the story

As I listened to the Arc audio version which was narrated by Karen Peakes, the same narrator  as the first book. Karen's voice suits this narrative well with great pacing. I still really enjoy the supernatural element with the twins, Hayley and Taylor. Looking forward to see if Gregg carries on these adventures with the twins within Port Gamble.

Nice solid 4.25  stars

"I did what no one else would."

I liked this one just a bit more than the first. Even though it's book 2, this one could easily stand alone - although I did like knowing the previous experiences to tie some of the hints and end stuff up. The twins are interesting characters and their abilities, as they discover them, as well as the clues to the mystery are well done and I did find myself wanting to know how it all ended.
The little twist at the end was great, tying everything together.

This week I’ve been listening to the first two books in the Port Gamble Chronicles series by Gregg Olsen. I love Olsen’s disturbing true crime books. In this fiction series, he does a great job of creating characters that are easy to hate.

In Book 1, Beneath Her Skin, we are introduced to Hayley & Taylor, who are twins in the local high school. One of their classmates is found dead in their bathtub and the death threatens to expose local secrets. This book was good, but not great. I wish there were better character development of the good guys in this book. (Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5)

I enjoyed Book 2, Dying To Be Her, a lot more. This story picks up a few months after book 1 ends. Another student at Hayley & Taylor’s high school is found dead. This time it’s a foreign exchange student. I found the story to be much more gripping and the character development better in book 2. (Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5)

Overall, I would continue with this series, especially if the books continued to become stronger and more gripping thrillers.

Thank you @bookouture for allowing me to listen to the audiobook versions of this republished series, in exchange for my honest reviews.
