I was completely drawn in by this book since page one! The illustrations were magnificent, and the story of this mysterious universe was very appealing, and presented what it seemed to be a very interesting plot. What I’d really like to stress is how the illustrations suited the progression of the story, convening a gloomier or a more brightened scenario, according the narration. It was, without doubt, a hooking book, and I only put it down once I finished reading it, and now I’m looking forward to the sequel.

This. Was. So. Good. The art was just incredible. And the story is so captivating. I have to read more!! It's a bit confusing, but almost intentionally so. It doesn't give everything away right away, so as to allow room for plot twists I assume. I am a huge fan of plot twists and complicated, tragic plots. So this is definitely a favorite of mine in all its crypticness and darkness. This graphic novel is overall just beautiful. I am excited to see the films that are supposed to be coming out as well!

It's been SO LONG since I read a graphic novel. I love these things.

At 70something pages, this is barely a sip of a book and only serves as an introduction to a much larger story. I generally prefer getting lost in long, beefy graphic novels, the oversized kind that leave my arms and wrists aching from holding the damn thing up for hours at a time. This book is obviously much lighter in weight. The content of the book, however, was rich and nuanced, and by the end (which, in the scope of the story, is really just the beginning) I found myself looking forward to the next installment. The team behind this book did an amazing job with writing and visuals, and other than a few leaps in graphic style (there's more than one illustrator), I found the artwork to be amazingly tight and wonderfully cinematic, and the writing was top notch as well. Kudos to the entire team. This could have gone in a very different, very forced, very cheesy direction, but the team was solid and professional and savvy enough to not go that route. I have no complaints other than some dialog that prints into the gutter. Not a show stopper, not even a little one.

So, yeah, bring on #2! I'll be there with my money in hand.

I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway in exchange for an honest review. I honestly loved it. I guess my review could have been just this bottom few sentences, but that's not how I roll.
