Weeeellll. I put this one down because it just seemed like another fantasy with no diversity. Why bother? If you're making up societies and races, and don't include any PoC, then I'm going to assume you're not writing for me.

This book was spectacular. The beginning was a bit slow and I was slow to pick up the multiple points of view. About a quarter of the way through the book it ramped up in a spectacular pace and I loved this book. The characters were dynamic and interesting. Can't wait for part two!

Interesting take on modern fairy world and its reach into our world. Liked the uber-powerful and sexy protagonist, but, sigh, it got old after a little while. A smart attempt at a fantastical political and murderous series. I won't feel too bad about leaving it here, enjoyable but didn't stick after reading.

I was ready to love The Exile. Awesome cover, kick-ass heroine, urban fantasy with fae. Sounds good, right?
But this book had too many flaws...
- Too scattered. Chapeters jump in POV between Brianna, police detective and her father... Too many hints about too many events...
- Events feel unconnected.
- Reactions have no sense.
- Too many characters and most of them (if not all) feel shallow. Only thick epic fantasy books can pull of this big cast of characters (or you should add them gradually).
But this book had too many flaws...

This is a debut of sorts from an established author. However, this will mark her solo exploration. And, it’s a decent enough start. There are flaws, but still a good enough story to keep readers involved. The world building was decent and the characters were believable enough. It’s a series to watch as this author grows more on her own. It holds promise.
I’d say that the characters need more individualization. Their voices all blend together to the point that what they say doesn’t seem like something a person like them would actually say. The only other “complaint” is that it is standard faery plot. Not that there will be much deviation from most notable things, but still the story isn’t ground breaking and doesn’t introduce anything really that new.
I completely recommend it for urban fantasy fans, because it’s right up that alley. And, there are many places to go with tons of development opportunities with these new characters you can grow to love.

Didn't do anything for me... No attachment to the characters, world building, or plot. This will be one of those books that I can't recall a single detail about 10 minutes from now. I did like the narrator though.

I really enjoyed this first in a series by C.T. Adams, half of the Cat Adams duo responsible for the Blood Singer series.
In The Exile, Brianna is the half-human daughter of the fae king, who gets quickly embroiled in intrigue when she is attacked in her home by fae creatures, and ends up in the other world with two humans in tow - her employee, David, and his brother, Nick. It becomes all the more complicated getting back when Brianna learns her status is elevated, and she is on the "list" as one of her father's potential successors.
The pacing never stops when Brianna and her friends enter the fairy world. I grew to admire her for not only her physical prowess, but also her ingenuity and devotion to protecting her friends. And David and Nick were similarly likable. There were many characters in the fae, some with good intentions and others not.
The ending came quickly, and I'm already looking forward to the next one!
