This was a really fun play. Short, not too complicated, heavy, or philosophical, with a heavy dash of comedy. I think I would have enjoyed it much more had I not been reading it for a class, and didn't find it super meaningful, but it was definitely entertaining!

By no means poorly, but not incredibly memorable. while it captures the gossipy and contrary natures usually seen in 'country folk' and does have quote a scoundrel involved, it doesn't stand out in the plethora of plays about deceptive suitors to me.

I tried really hard to enjoy Sygne's works but they just don't appeal to me. I recognize his influence and importance in the Irish Literary Revival and I find it quite remarkable that he writes his plays in English while using the syntax and grammatical structure of Irish. But somehow, Playboy of the Western World and The Shadow of the Glenn, being the only plays of Sygne's which I've read, did nothing for me.

o this was a great time & would be a warm night's entertainment. Tried not to ask myself whether it was anti-Irish as I read. I aspire to be this hospitable to somebody that announces their crimes on the doorstep

Read for a module called ‘riotous performance’ but there were no riots in it. Misleading.

Read for school, not something I would have picked up on my own as I usually don't enjoy reading plays.
