There aren't many Black characters in this and the way they were written made me uneasy. I'd rather the author just... not.

There were some very sad and suspenseful moments. I don't like to predict outcomes but I really didn't see this one at all! At times I could really feel the emotions and I closed the book with a slightly heavy heart. I'm not 100% sure I'll read another book of hers for a while. I also felt as if this book dragged a bit into some details and things we didn't really need!

Forensic nurse Timmie has moved to Missouri to care for her ailing father and to get away from her ex-husband. Looking forward to the slower pace of life then she discovers that patients in the hospital's Alzheimer's Department are dying in unwarranted numbers. She is convinced that there is a serial killer stalking the Department.

From the first page, the first sentence, you know you're with an author you can trust. "Brain Dead" is funny, well-plotted, with characters you really care about. I've written that before, but seldom have I been so caught up in a character's ethical dilemma - which ultimately becomes the crux of the book. That sounds Heavy, but Dreyer handles her heroine's problems so deftly and humorously that you are pulled into caring dreadfully that she will make the right decision. All this, and a believable plot - with a chameleon thrown in for good measure. This is classic stuff.
