A story of grief, love and acceptance
The story follows Julie, a high school senior who is struggling to come to terms with the sudden death of her boyfriend, Sam. Thao portrays Julie's grief and pain with sensitivity and realism, that I found it easy to empathize with her. Additionally, the book's exploration of the afterlife and the concept of "unfinished business" is intriguing. Julie is a relatable and likable protagonist, and her growth throughout the book feels organic and believable.
At times, though, the plot can feel slow and meandering, with long stretches of introspection and contemplation that may not be interesting to some readers. Additionally, the book's portrayal of the afterlife may not be satisfying for readers who prefer more concrete explanations and resolutions.
