Soft DNF for now, I’ve wandered off to other books

Re-read in 2023. Sexy and weird in just the way I like, quotable and improved upon re-reading. A perfect Maggie book.

I’ll try to make this as spoiler-free as possible. If I had to sum this book up in one word, “pretentious” comes to mind. None of the characters were particularly likable. You really don’t get an actual conclusion for one of the main characters. A third party just kind of explains it away. I get what the author was trying to do. It just left me wanting more. It seemed like the author was trying to impress the reader with her big words and philosophical ideas about finding yourself and not needing someone else to do so. I think this had the potential to be a decent story, but I understand now why it sat on my shelf for two years because I couldn’t get past the first “chapter.”

went into this with the lowest expectations ever which is maybe how i should go into every book bc i genuinely can’t believe i’m giving it 4 stars

super fucking weird but mostly in a way i Love, give me weird shit any day. also super fucking sexual in mostly a way i didn’t enjoy, too many ‘cock’ mentions and i swear everyone was horny 100% of the time, but for some reason it didn’t bother me as much as i thought it would. at a few points i was like wow absolutely not, but overall really unique story and enjoyable to read.

This book was so very strange. I don't even know if I liked it? So much of it was meandering and irrelevant, but there were real moments of beauty and interest. It's not really a romance, not really a ghost story, and I'm honestly not sure what I was supposed to get from it. I think the concept was better than the execution, but I'm glad I read it.

I liked this and it was a pretty weird book. I have been unintentionally reading books with librarians in them, and I feel like this novel didn’t seem to have a sense of what they do. Even so, it kept me listening, wondering and thinking. I’ve had some strange boyfriends, and some hard break ups, but nothing like this one. I enjoyed the pointless bureaucracy of the somewhat-afterlife as well.
