Oof. Okay so this book I feel had A LOT of potential, and it felt like a good book to read during spooky season at the beginning. I don’t quite know what happened afterwards, or what point led to this book being so cringy. This novel became really bad really fast. It was entirely sex. And Thomas’s relationship with Rachel was abusive. I think if things had been more explained, and we kind of understood why Thomas would disappear, or what was happening to Rachel the longer she stayed with Thomas it would’ve made more sense? But also maybe not, because Thomas was just selfish. I dunno, it’s disappointing because this could’ve been executed SO WELL but it just turned for the worse. Oh well, on to the next book.

I'm not sure I liked this...it was odd. Sort of interesting. Very esoteric?

Beautiful, sexy, dreamy, darkly comic splendor of a novel! I really enjoyed this imagining of what death could look like and how hard it might be to let go. I appreciated the liminal nature of this strikingly composed tale. Almost fairy tale like or magical realist, but at the same time all too real and heartfelt in its melancholy. I also really enjoyed her particularly dreamy way with words. I really loved it! A sweet and spooky read.

I understand some of the harsh criticism this book has been given. I didn't think it was all that bad. All in all not much happens. A woman falls in love with a man that is somewhat dead yet not quite. He's essentially in a waiting period before his total death. She becomes infatuated with him, and him her, until they become almost one being. If you are expecting anything more than a bit it a horny more descriptive version of that summary then yes, you will be disappointed.

I would've rated this lower but the last section of the book really brought things together. As a love story this would be terrible but I think there's something metaphorical to be read here.
