It started off really well - interesting, unique, and satirically funny! But somewhere around the 3rd character's introduction/story/plot/section (whatever), it started to slow down and the descriptions of certain activities (ie. sex and relationships) became a bit repetitive. At first the writing and story was humorous and even quite shocking but eventually it lost it's satirical charm and just felt tiresome.
Being such a short read, I stuck with it and I'm glad I did because I really did like how the author wrapped up the story. It felt complete but I did feel that this could have been made into an even shorter novel all while still accomplishing the same ending/goal.

At the beginning of this book I thought I had another Lincoln in the Bardo book in my hands. I did not.
As one who, at times, lives in their imagination quite a bit, I found this quirky novel relatable.
I should never have trusted an author who writes a blonde man as a love interest.
Sad pessimists in New York City is neither exceptional nor interesting.

Incredibly poetic writing and a really lovely, weird little book.

Ugh, incredible. I loved this. Odd and familiar, and so true to cover, and asks about every regret and doesn’t try to answer.

WHAT? What did I just read? This by far was the most bizarre book I’ve read this year. It started off with an interesting premise where a man dies, but then is returned to live out his life for a few extra months. However, he has to follow certain rules. If he doesn’t follow the rules, he will have regrets. Then the story completely derails. The story should have just focused on the narration of Thomas, who is the man who died and returned. Instead, it alternates between Thomas, Rachel (his girlfriend he meets upon returning) and Mark (Rachel’s ex). Nothing is explained and it just turns into smut with all of the sex scenes. This book is not worth your time.
I picked this because it sounded unusual and it was indeed unusual. Not on a surreal or earth-shattering level, but rather a story through a new lens. And certainly not a romance story (thank the gods), but an introspection. Overall it didn't knock me over, but the writing was promising.
