I usually like reading weird things, but this was a step too weird for me. On the surface, it's a loooot of fucking a ghost. In a deeper respect, it is a lesson in learning more about yourself and letting yourself love. I liked where the message was heading, but it took a long time to get there. I had to keep pushing myself to continue, which made the book feel long and uncomfortable. I was also at first confused by the story because the description of the book didn't really mirror it - the description made it seem like a younger, quirkier story about a girl who falls for a dead guy. But it was actually split into perspectives - first the dead guy Thomas, then the girl Rachel, then Rachel's ex Marcus (who came out of nowhere). We spend a lot of time with Thomas before even getting to Rachel and by then I was more interested in Thomas's side, to only have it taken back.

Much of the prose was exquisite, but the plot, like Thomas, was a bit full of holes. It was an interesting concept and delightfully weird, but I wanted to like it more than I actually did.

Honestly a very frustrating read. I disliked the characters not in Morally-gray-character way, but more in a way that made me dislike the author. They are pretentious, all narrate the same, and truly have this unsufferable grad school vibe, despite none of them going to grad school. The writing itself was interesting at times and I thought the concept was fascinating, but it was underdeveloped and poorly done. We never even learned exactly what the regrets are. The only reason I didn’t rate it lower was because I found the concept interesting and there were a few lines in the book that were well written. Most of it was not.
