I loved how Shraya perfectly depicted what it means to fall in and out of friendship. Set against the music industry, “The Subtweet” is a wholly modern yet enduring story of friendship, artistry, and the fine line between reverence and thievery.

Vivek Shraya composes a beautiful and fraught narrative about friendship and the experience of being a brown artist in a white-dominated music industry. Shraya's use of social media to weave between the characters' perspectives and create tension drives the story. It's lyrical.

This was probably just not quite for me - Malika's story was incredibly moving and I felt like she got sidelined a bit, which is a shame because those were the highest stakes in the story.

The nuance of Shraya's commentary felt so relevant to what we see online everyday and really highlighted the issues of coloured erasure, especially in the media/music industry. I really enjoyed how Shraya explored the complexity of female friendships, especially those formed later in life or through social media. A really relatable read.

I usually struggle when there are POV and tense shifts in a book but thoroughly enjoyed this, although I did think the ending felt a little rushed.
