These books are tooooooo long for what they are I don’t understand how this author made this book 800 pages cause there’s nothing to show for it?! it’s such a shame because the characters are very likeable and some of the storylines are very interesting but it’s all very anticlimactic? some of the main plots come together in just a chapter or two? a good concept but poor execution in my opinion, if this book was 350 pages i think it would have been a lot better.

Oh my lord, this series has my entire heart and soul. I am doing a buddy read with my friend for this series and I’m actually grateful I have someone to share the highs and lows with, because I don’t think I could’ve coped alone!

There’s one particular scene in this book - no spoilers but you’ll know it when you read it - which had me gasping out loud into void of my bedroom.

Johnny is a cinnamon roll MMC who is blind with love and makes rash decisions about Shannon - some of them being truly life-changing. We see a lot of change in Shannon’s character too. She slowly becomes more reckless, independent and feels completely secure in her relationship with Johnny, knowing he’s proved his trust and loyalty within this book and the last.

We get to know side characters more deeply and get an insight into their personalities and back stories. We learn more about Gibsie, Claire, Lizzie and Hughie, and we interact a lot more with Shannon’s brothers’ too.

Again, this book (similar to Binding 13) explores extremely dark, serious topics so please keep that in mind before starting.

I’m sad Johnny and Shannon’s story is over, but looking forward to starting Saving 6!

DID NOT FINISH: 50%

It’s so bad. I only made it as far as I did because I started listening on 2x speed while I was deliberating between other book to start. It’s just an endless cycle of the same scene in different wigs. For some reason we’re also still establishing how tiny Shannonliketheriver is and details about Johnny’s now functional dick every ten seconds. Speaking of which, why does literally every scene with any character revolve somehow around their sex lives? Why did we need multiple scenes of Johnny’s mom/parents inquiring about and applauding the functionality of his genitals? Why was Gibsie foaming at the mouth for details of Johnny’s return to masturbating? And then talking to his mom about his ejaculate?!?? I didn’t make it to the razor scene but read a different review that mentioned it and dude, what the fuck?

I honestly don’t get how this is so highly rated, like did we read the same book? Am I taking crazy pills? I also feel like this series is beyond YA for some of the content (it’s in the (adult) Romance section at my bookstore) but it’s also about literal children so the amount of adults raving and rabid for these books sleeves me tf out. Like, who are these for? IDK but it ain’t me.
