This is the story of Danny Davis, referee turned heel referee turned wrestler turned referee in the WWF in the 1980s.

So I put in on the kickstarter for this and lost the book in the back of a cabinet shortly after I got it in the mail. I found it this morning and read it in one long sitting.

This book clocks in at just under 200 pages and Danny Davis doesn't get into the business until about halfway through. However, his early life was really interesting. My wife and I watch "I'm a Killer" on Netflix and Danny's story begins like all of those. He was a street kid from a broken home, stealing to survive and hanging with a rough crowd, and spent some time in the reformatory.

He starts straightening out after joining the WWF ring crew. Eventually, he goes from driving the ring truck to refereeing to occasionally working as Mr X in addition to his wrestling duties. Eventually he made the transition from top referee to heel referee to wrestler and back to referee. He eventually quit the business to save his son from falling into the same traps he did.

This was a pretty gripping read. Davis doesn't sugar coat who he was when he was young, talking about stealing and fighting and nearly ending up in jail. It was really cool that he spent a lot of time on the road with the Grand Wizard, Chief Jay Strongbow, and others and learned the business from them. I liked that he left when he did but it's sad that he had to give up his dream job. On the other hand, more fathers should do that for their sons.

3.5 out of five stars. I liked it quite a bit but it was too short to give it the full four stars.
