This is a book you read for the love of language. It contains many underlinable snippets of well written wisdom that I kind of wish I’d actually underlined. I kept reading for the love of those snippets, and not necessarily for the story of Arthur Less. The story wasn’t the point in this case, which I found a little disappointing, and hence docked it a star. Still a recommended read though!

🧠 My thoughts
I’m not sure if I’ve read the same book as everyone else because it was not really enjoyable for me to read it. Many people compared this book to Eat Pray Love but I found this a bit of a far-fetched. In Eat Pray Love, the main character traveled the world to find herself and happiness. However, on the opposite, Less traveled the world to run away from his problems. Well, it would be understandable if he ran away from his issues at first but then throughout the journey, he would somehow “grow” right? But that was not the case here, he might had some reflective moments about his gender identity and age but not really much more than that. Nothing really happened in the book and it was a bit hard to even empathize with Less maybe because of his personality.
At the end, someone just jumped out of nowhere and declared his love to Less. I’m sorry but what was that?

👍 What I like
  • The stories when Less travels to many countries might be the only thing I like in this book

👎 What I don't like
  • Unrelatable and hard-to-empathize-with character
  • Flat story
  • Nothing really happens

Last book of 2022! I liked it. It had some really stand out parts that will stick with me. Some parts weren’t as great. But really good overall.

I loved this book, and it definitely takes one of my favorite books of the year. This story was simply a joy to read and is written with careful intention. Extremely touching, funny, and surpassed all of my expectations. 100% I’d read it again and would recommend it to anybody! 9.5/10.

Recommended by my local librarian, Susan. God bless you Susan.
