Not the strongest story due to it being a collection of background stories collected together but it is compelling stuff. You can picture the history, the tension and the drive to survive.

Stories always well told by Dan Abnett / Toby Longworth.

Easy read - warhammer is always about war of course, with imaginative concepts and scenery intertwined.
This book i think most centrally expresses the leaders challenges and how he forms with and feels beholden to his team.

Dan Abnett has the rare gift of the ability to bring entire worlds and battle scenes to screaming, vivid life, it’s the next best thing to being there. Aaaaaand… knowing the world of warhammer 40k, you wouldn’t want to be within 10,000 light years of this mess.

A few minor quibbles, give it a miss if you want characters that are shades of grey rather than black or white, or if you want your sci fi to have imaginative science and tactics rather than WW1 but throw in a couple of lasguns. Apart from that, immensely enjoyable!
