In parts it feels dated now, but it was overall amusing. I wish Mindy Laling were casted in more roles. She is so funny. Also, she weirdly "predicted" a lot of things that have since come out: a female Ghostbusters, a country album from Beyonce... (there is a lot more, but I don't remember them).

This book wasn't what I expected. I expected to be laughing on every page, frequently wiping away tears of mirth. There are a few laugh-out-loud moments, but mostly it's not that kind of funny. It's just an amusing, interesting look at someone who has been phenomenally successful in Hollywood at a very young age without being a complete screwup. She isn't an addict or an alcoholic. There are no trips to rehab, no tabloid pictures of embarrassing party pranks, no drama-queen public romances or breakups. Kaling is refreshingly angst-free. She is also smart, funny, and a good writer. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her story. (and just for the record, I've never watched a single episode of The Office, so that's not a prerequisite for enjoying this book.)

I love "The Office," so I figured that I'd enjoy anything written by one of the show's writers. This book exceeded my expectations, high as they were. I was laughing out loud on almost every page! Mindy seems to be both self-depreciating and confident at the same time; she feels good about herself in general, but she's not afraid to make fun of her quirks and flaws. I liked learning about how she built her career and getting the inside scoop on how things work at "The Office," too.

Like with "Why Not Me?" I walk away from this book with a fierce appreciation for Ms. Kaling's sense of humor and a fierce wish that she was my best friend. If you like laughs, pick this up.

Great book. If you love light and fun memoirs you will love this book. Kaling has a delightfully conversational tone that makes you feel like you are best friends, passing notes. Her stories are hilarious , and her insights into Hollywood delightful. Much along the lines of Tina Fey's Bossypants.

I listened to the audiobook. I would have liked a more cohesive narrative. Her stories were very funny but the book, like a lot of memoirs, was very disjointed. It was mostly essays but included a number of lists, and it might have been easier to see subheads and divisions in a hard copy.

I honestly don't have much to say about this. I enjoyed reading this and I think Mindy Kaling is an amazing person but this book didn't wow me. I only know her from The Office and I did like the little insight we got on that.
I would still recommend this book though! Especially if you're a fan of Mindy Kaling.
