The It Girl is my first introduction to Ruth Ware. I really enjoyed her writing, her characterisation was so immersive and well done, the split time lines built the tension and brilliantly unfolded the story.
There were turns I definitely did not see coming and twist up until the very end.
An atmospheric, character focused, murder mystery. A tight knit group of friends, one dead girl and the mystery 10 years on, is the right man behind bars.
A thrilling ending I did not expect, all the loose ends tied up neatly, a very satisfying close.
On the negative side Ruth Ware wrote her characters so well and realistically that the protagonist -Hannah's- inner dialogue often annoyed me, she thought in circles and repeated herself often, spiralling and jumping to conclusions. Realistic! But annoying.
I also did find the 'before' timeline much more intriguing for the majority of the book, I kept waiting for the jump back to the past and was a bit disappointed when we caught up to the 'after'. I felt the setting of the college, the atmosphere and friendship group in the 'before' timeline was much more compelling. Until the end when the current timeline did pack quite alot of tense, thrilling scenes in!
Overall, I definitely enjoyed this book and will continue to pick up from this author.

Listened to the audiobook. Dual time lines, campus murder. Felt a little too long.
