SO GOOD!

This was the most addicting book of the series so far and that says something since I’ve enjoyed all of the previous four stories!

This one had childhood crushes becoming reality to that crush being reciprocated to jealousy and hurt overtaking them.

They had it all and get it back full force and more ❤️❤️

I just did not want to stop reading this book and I’m sad that it’s over lol

I’m going to go read their bonus scene now 😂

Michaela was first introduced in Written in the Beat as a side character who was sent to be Jax's date. Embracing picks up a few years later with her being out on what should be an enjoyable experience for any up and coming rockstar. If only her manager wasn't there.

West Abbott is the best friend of her older brother. When circumstances in his own life force him to move back home to Philadelphia, he never expected to find a fully grown up version of the little girl who always tagged along behind them.

Sparks and heat are instant between them that lead to the hottest scene ever, involving a tie. The only problem is he believes he would never be enough for the famous singer, and she believes he would never accept her if he knew the truth.

I fully embraced, (see what I did there,) this read from the first page. I couldn’t put it down. Next to Jax and Charlie’s story, (not that I haven't loved them all,) this one holds the most heart. I highly recommend this story of secret love and what can happen to a heart when the love is fully embraced!

ARC Review

Michaela King is a rising rock star we meet at the end of a music tour. But not big venues she was led to believe she would be playing. Instead, she finds herself performing in dive bars and is increasingly disappointed by her record label, Reverb. The final straw comes when her label rep, Brad, tries to sexually assault her after her last show. She escapes and flees in the middle of the night back home to her parents’ house in Philadelphia.

West Abbott is Michaela’s older brother’s best friend. He’s a high school history teacher and has recently moved back to Philadelphia after calling off an engagement with a cheating fiancée. Fiancée got pregnant behind West’s back by another man and tried to pass it off as West’s baby. He’s now living with the King family while he gets himself back on his feet.

Michaela has always had a crush on West and the attraction is reciprocated. The two start a sexual relationship, which leads to “feelings”. However, West struggles with his past relationship and the lies he was told by his ex-fiancée. This feeds into his current relationship with Michaela and he finds himself doubting if he can trust her. When Michaela becomes pregnant, West questions if the baby is really his because he’s traumatized by his past relationship. West is a dick, tells Michaela he doesn’t believe the baby is his, and the two split up after a huge fight.

Broken-hearted, Michaela goes back to LA to put her life without West back together. She moves in with Mia and Garrett (from Betting on the Beat: A Heart Beats Novella), gets out of her Reverb record contract, and signs on with Arrhythmic (Jax and Nick’s record label).

In true romance novel fashion, West pulls his head out of his ass, starts seeing a therapist (FINALLY! A man who goes to therapy!) travels to LA, and grovels at Michaela’s feet to win her back.

Breanna’s writing improves with each book. I’m a sucker for a brother’s best friend/age gap trope. The surprise pregnancy trope isn’t always my favorite but it works here. Also, a sexy history teacher with a hidden dominant side in the sack? Hell yes!! The spicy scenes were HOT.

The only thing that didn’t work for me was the stuttering dialog. (“‘N-no problem,’ I stutter, dragging my tongue across lips that suddenly feel like they’ve been baking in the sun all day.” “‘T-to new beginnings,’ I echo, tapping his glass with mine.”) I found it slightly distracting. But that’s just me. :)

Overall, a great story. 4/5

Embracing the Beat is Michaela and West's story inside the Heart Beats world. It can perfectly be read as a standalone but Breanna's previous books are very good and I highly recommend to read them all !
The main characters know each other since childhood but it doesn't prevent misunderstandings and miscommunication and if you add troubled pasts, trust issues and a noisy family... it could be the recipe to disaster or for a very good book !
That novel is very well written with a lot of emotions, spicy scenes and a bit of groveling which lead to a well deserved HEA.

We are finally getting Michaela as our main female character and finding out so much more about her. We find out about her struggles with her career as well as the awful record label, Reverb (which we know from the past how horrible they really are). She is back home for a break after the worst tour and experience ever.

West is Michaela’s brother, Sawyer’s best friend. So West and Michaela have grown up together. He is a high school history teacher and so passionate about his profession. There has always been this attraction for Michaela towards West Burt he is just now realizing it on his end, even though to him it is completely forbidden.

There is a journey we go on with Michaela. Not just with her career but with love and her personal life. She is just on the struggle bus but has the support of so many people including her bestie Mia. We really get to see her growth and strength throughout this story.

Breanna Lynn gave us this couple we want to root for. Because lets be real, “Brothers-Best-Friend” is always a great idea and fantastic trope. But we also just want to root for Michaela the whole time too. Life is throwing her pounds of lemons and watching her make the sweetest lemonade out of them is worth it all.

Tropes: Brother’s Best Friend, Rockstar Romance, Age Gap, Surprise Pregnancy
PoV: Dual

Embracing the Beat is Book Four in the Heartbeats Series, and while they can be read as standalones, I always recommend going back and reading the entire series either before or after this one. There are some interwoven characters and I think you appreciate them more if you know their story too! (I’m sorry, I’m always going to be a die-hard Jax fan!!)

Once again, Breanna Lynn, hit all the right notes with Michaela and West, and I can’t wait to get this book in paperback to add it to my shelf. At one point, I got annoyed with my real life responsibilities because I really just wanted to finish this book.

Also, can we please take a moment to appreciate West? Even though the man has no common sense and I wanted to smack him upside the head once or twice.. There is something about a sexy history nerd who likes to take control in the bedroom.

I can’t wait to see where Breanna Lynn takes us next!

Embracing the Beat...

I embraced the beat of my heart... that's for sure. I won't lie... I read this book in one day. I split it up a bit, but I was sucked in. The story of West and Michaela was incredible, and the things she wrote... Breanna Lynn had me on the edge of my seat.

Even though I guessed it... (what I'm a doula I'm used to this) I was encaptured... from the very first page with SA I thought... this is gonna be interesting and it surely was.

Reading from 5 am till 11pm because I had to finish it...

thanks a lot... I'm exhausted and book hungerover. But I loved it!
