The way that Fannie Flagg crafts stories is genuinely so engaging, and this book is no different. Flagg seamlessly jumps back and forth between two separate time periods and protagonists without breaking a sweat, carefully and brilliantly weaving together a great story.
I think one thing that concerns me when reading her work is that there are some southern characters who say ignorant things, but it’s sometimes hard to tell if Flagg is mocking those characters or she believes those things to be true. Definitely have to read with a critical eye!
That all being said, this was such a fun read and I’m glad that Flagg inserted some hidden history into this story about the WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) during World War II.
