I put off reading this book. Why? Because damn it, I didn’t want to feel sorry for or like Michelle Hastings in any way.
Nope, this was not going to happen. No force on earth could make her so forgivable.
And, I was sure I wouldn’t enjoy the book because pfftt surely not even Lee winters could turn her in to someone sympathetic while still maintaining the bitch who destroyed Catherine Ayers.
Oh me of little faith.
Of course Lee fucking Winter was able to keep the icy wicked woman icy and wicked, while simultaneously making me feel sympathetic and a little intrigued by the bloody same woman. But I mean, honestly, I should still hate her. But damn it, Eden Lawless and her disposition shines that light on Michelle and yep, I’m gunna have to read Chaos Agent. And soon.
Now the book itself. I love Eden. A dynamic character that is yeah, super sunshine but also sticks to her guns and isn’t actually the pushover so many sunshine characters tend to be.
She is adorable with her heartache and her passion balancing perfectly the crazy into quirky. To be fair the crazy didn’t really seem crazy to me. I love the little hippy and her Gloria.
On to the side characters. They are the bomb! The good, the bad, and the Jewish grandmother.
The depth of the story tackles hurt and abandonment in such raw and honest ways, with Eden having to go back to her home town and face the darkest of her past.
Meanwhile Michelle doesn’t have an easy ride of it. Her own past keeps coming up trying to rise the bile in her throat. And damn it, I CARE about Michelle FUCKING Hastings … wtf.
Now, trying not to spoil too much, but did I like the end. No! But yes. I mean Michelle you’ve come so far and yet, you still have so much to learn.
Bloody good hook.
And it would be totally remiss of me not to mention the incredible talents of one Angela Dawe. I mean honestly, the way she makes every single character come alive and the world around feel so tangible. If you are a listener, it’s 100% worth it. Even if say, you have signed copies of these books sitting on your shelf.

Alright, now time to bugger off, and dive in to Chaos Agent. Let’s see just how furious I can get with Lee Winter as she proves yet again, that I can’t even find solace in hating the bad guy in books.

DNF @ 55% - the story line with the 15yo male SA victim is just completely unnecessary and handled not well at all. I had to stop after the "villain" MC told him he had the power now in the relationship with his abuser, just so wrong. Beyond that, the MCs felt flat, there was no nuance to their characterizations, and I just didn't believe they're supposed to be a political activist and DC fixer.

I didn't expect this to be so easy to read considering the topic but it really was. Really liked Eden and her creativity. I'm very curious on how this story continues.
