I'm not entirely sure what to make of this book. It contains beautifully done feminist critiques of "Carmilla," "Jane Eyre," and "Dracula", but then repeatedly passes value judgement on other works based on whether they adhere to vampire lore or vampire literary history (insofar that the author seems to prefer works that don't have "actual" vampires in them but use vampire-lore metaphors over works that have "real" vampires that take after the literary canon.) It took me weeks to get through because I kept getting sick of the author's attitude and putting it back down again, so two stars for you, Carol.
